ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we use Pat Griffin's taxonomy of three climates—informed with Anderson's (2009a) concept of homohysteria—in order to conceptualize the experiences of openly gay and lesbian athletes. Supporting this, we draw upon academic sports research undertaken during periods of high homohysteria to exemplify Griffin's taxonomies.
