ABSTRACT

There has been a wholesale cultural change toward sexuality among today's youth. Sexual activities that were once highly stigmatized (like pre-marital sex, hooking up, oral sex, anal sex and group sex) are now commonplace and socially acceptable sexual activities for youth (Anderson 2010, 2012b; Branfman, Stiritz and Anderson forthcoming; Scoats, Joseph and Anderson forthcoming). This chapter examines another impact of decreasing sexual stigma, the impact of declining homophobia, and the impact it has, not on gay men, but on straight athletes and non-athletes (Anderson and McCormack 2015; McCormack and Anderson 2010a ) alike. The impact is greatest for men, but is also true of women.
