ABSTRACT

Throughout this book we have endeavored to highlight the ways that liberal thought influences criminology and the social sciences. We have tried to show some of the limits of liberal ideology, as well as where liberal dogma has caused harm. In the following pages we advance specific principles of what we term “conservative criminology.” Given the broad swathe of our critique, we offer principles that cut across several areas, including science, society, and the criminal justice system. As principles, these statements merely advance positions rooted in conservative beliefs of restraint in relation to government, tradition, social order and public safety, and redemption.
