ABSTRACT

The final chapter reviews the key findings of the CLET study and evaluates the study’s contribution to the empirical research literature. The significance of insights from the findings for theoretical framings of the state’s responsibilities to the children for whom it has assumed responsibility are considered, particularly as young people approach and attain legal adulthood. Fruitful directions for further research in this area are suggested. The implications of the findings in the international context for policy and practice affecting this small cohort of disadvantaged young people who have a particular claim on the state to safeguard and promote their welfare are briefly summarised.
