ABSTRACT

We might here have closed this narrative, having brought the hero of it to the summit of earthly felicity, by means which discover the secret direction of Providence in the a airs of this world, and how his almighty hand can make the unruly passions of sinful men subservient to the most righteous purposes; and events seemingly tri ing and accidental, yet in the great chain of causes and e ects to lead to the most important consequences. is indeed is a truth which we have long had occasion to observe ourselves, and which we have endeavoured in this story to impress upon the minds of our readers. Before we take our nal leave, however, it may be pleasing to some, to know what became of those who/ have appeared as subordinate characters in this work.
