ABSTRACT

This chapter explains Portuguese learners that the way of expressing likes and dislikes, describing themselves and saying what they do, telling the time, and the days of the week in Portuguese. It also explains the method of using the verbs ser and estar, and using the present indicative of regular verbs in Portuguese. The chapter expresses that the adjectives describing Clara will change because she is a female speaker. Nouns denoting professions also alter according to who is speaking or being referred to. Adjectives usually follow the noun and agree in gender and number with the noun to which they refer, when an adjective refers jointly to a masculine and a feminine noun, the adjective always takes the masculine plural form. Portuguese has two verbs for 'to be', one of which you already know, ser. The other is estar. The chapter contains dialogues, reading comprehensions and exercises covering essential grammar points and vocabulary.
