ABSTRACT

This chapter states a sequence of actions in Japanese. It describes habitual actions, and a present state in Japanese. The chapter explains that the te-form of a verb is used when a sentence has more than one verb and the actions in the sentence happen in succession. Colloquial Japanese provides a step-by-step course in Japanese as it is written and spoken today. The chapter offers a course content to anyone who wishes to acquire the ability to speak, understand, read and write basic Japanese for daily use. The Japanese language has two speech styles: the polite style and the plain style. The polite style is used in formal situations such as talking to a stranger or senior whereas the plain style is used in casual situations such as talking with a close friend. The chapter progressively covers speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
