ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the importance for multinational companies (MNCs) to implement and enforce ethics programs and also discusses many of the core ethical issues facing any corporation involved in trade across borders. The chapter contains four major sections all emphasizing emerging markets. In the first section, the readers will read about the basic definitions of international ethics and social responsibility. The readers will also learn about why multinationals are being criticized in the context of globalization. In the second section, the readers will learn about some of the key global ethics issues. This section of the chapter discusses three main issues, namely labor rights and issues, environmental issues, and corruption and bribery. In the third section, the readers will read about some of the approaches being used to build the global ethical corporation. Finally, in the fourth section, the readers will learn about many steps and activities any multinational needs to engage in to become more ethical at global level.
