ABSTRACT

Perfection is a fruitless endeavor and it resonates with the work of science fiction (SF). The pursuit of community perfection is often blamed for social tensions and violence; the sprawling suburbs have been accused of producing intolerance and ghettoization. The living infrastructure of Perfection mixes dense human population, water treatment and urban agriculture whilst supporting biodiversity. Perfection, with a carefully planned future phasing strategy, starts by securing reservoirs and transport infrastructures. The backdrop of the wetlands bestows a pastoral quality on Perfection. The wetlands act as floodwater attenuation zones; on a day-to-day basis, the water accommodates the civic, leisure and retail sectors. The grids of Perfection are concurrent with that of Melbourne's city center; the new chessboard of housing features the 'Little-and-Large' strategy for urban massing. As Perfection develops, elevated transport connections are made to complement Melbourne's landmark tram routes.
