ABSTRACT

Sino Indian relations at the present juncture are comparable to United States Soviet Union relations during the Cold War. They had been described as collupetive, implying that they were simultaneously collusive and competitive, but the mix was different at different points in time. Now China is as firmly embedded in the geo-politics of East Asia as India is rooted in South Asia and South Korea in Northeast Asia. Sino-Indian and Sino-South Korean relations profoundly influence the regional security of South Asia and Northeast Asia. The two countries China and India had decided in their first meeting to constitute five Working Groups on policy coordination, infrastructure, energy, environment protection, and high technology, and their preparatory work resulted in 11 agreements being signed to undertake further studies to enhance greater cooperation in these areas. India's concerns will focus more largely in future on China rather than on Pakistan, which is set on pursuing its own self destruction.
