ABSTRACT

From 1988 to 1995 it was a very busy period for the Mura Kosker Sorority organisation and the staff that I previously mentioned, with running the six services, and raising money to send women to conferences state, nationally and internationally. We sent women to Beijing, New Zealand, all around Australia – wherever there was a women’s conference. Also the women did caravan tours throughout the Torres Strait to give support and encouragement to the women in the communities regarding the women’s movement, which was something new and not culturally acceptable with Torres Strait culture, especially the men, at that time.
