From 1988 to 1995 it was a very busy period for the Mura KoskerSorority organisation and the staff that I previously mentioned, with running the six services, and raising money to send women to

conferences state, nationally and internationally. We sent women to

Beijing, New Zealand, all around Australia – wherever there was a

women’s conference. Also the women did caravan tours throughout

the Torres Strait to give support and encouragement to the women in

the communities regarding the women’s movement, which was some-

thing new and not culturally acceptable with Torres Strait culture,

especially the men, at that time.
