Pinyin represents the pronunciation of Mandarin in many Chinese dictionaries and computer and cell phone input systems as well as in Chinese language textbooks. But Chinese texts are written in Chinese characters, and beginning in this chapter you will learn how to write characters correctly. We start with the characters for the numbers 1-10 and a few other commonly used characters that are written using a very small number of strokes.
