ABSTRACT

The analysis in this book makes the case that community forestry would be at least as productive and innovative as the current industrial regimes. Benner, Lertzman, and Pinkerton (2014) argue that community forests as a group have performed better than major industrial tenures in delivering local benefits If this is the case, there is no economic reason for governments to continue to discriminate in favour of the dominant corporate/industrial model.1

On the contrary, there are good reasons to facilitate the emergence of a strong community forestry sector.
