ABSTRACT

Previous chapters have been concerned mainly with static parameters. The position of a pan control (§5.5.2, p.121), the parameters of a distortion transfer function (Chapter 7), and the centre frequency of a bandpass filter (§6.2.2, p.149) are often consistent once they have been configured. However, a manual control input can be replaced by an automaticallygenerated value that changes over time, producing a different style of modification effect.

Figure 9.1 shows an example situation where a manual control could be replaced by a signal generator. There are a couple of good reasons to use a signal generator rather than (or in addition to) a manual control:
