ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the changing transference and escalating anger towards me as it became untenable to split the good and bad between two therapists or keep the ‘bad’ out of our work. The combination of the introduction of the art therapy in the third break, and the way in which the change in supervision influenced my change in relation to her in the room, taken together, supported the dramatic changes in the transference and Jane’s view of me. I deal directly with the way supervision impacted and changed the work in the following chapter although I will refer to it in passing here. Prior to the introduction of the art therapy, some negative or cross

little girl statements began to appear in the letters. Here is a letter written the day after a session (in Phase 2) from the third year, in which Jane continues to share aspects of the ‘little girl’s’ experience, written prior to the art work and the influence of the new supervision with Patrick Casement, who highlighted how I had adopted the good mother stance. In this letter, she is telling me about a structure, built in a forest near where she lives, for children and members of the public to enjoy.
