ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book presents a brief background of the cultural situation, in which it is framed, is necessary, besides an indication of the goals and content. It aims to contribute to the creation of a consciousness of the role technology plays within the subjects of sustainable urban regeneration. The book provides the definition of technological solutions for open spaces in the city and the chosen practical examples will reflect these approaches. It provides the debate about a zero kilometer architecture, construction, and project restrains the field to the question of fossil fuel consumption, necessary for the transportation of systems and products. The book consists neither in a landscape theory nor in urban programming and planning proposals. It emphasizes the technological and material, rather than merely shape and planning, considerations of the regeneration processes.
