ABSTRACT

The interaction between globalization and the consumerist society is one of the main issues that the present era faces in order to comprehend the processes of anthropic evolution in the third millennium. In fact, among all the green movements and approaches to the new economy, the conception of zero kilometer (km) materials has become, by now, one of the main goals to be achieved with any sustainable urban policy. In architecture, the historic development of globalization corresponded very closely to the ascendency of Modernism. The consequent benefits for the architecture in the city can be found in the reorganization of life and in the recognition of local peculiarities, aimed at sharing the cultural and traditional values with other communities by taking advantage of the boundary effect of intercultural society. Some traditional typologies of bio-composites have always been employed in architecture, such as the mixed systems in hemp and flour or the straw and earth.
