ABSTRACT

Peculiar ideas for employing waste as resource and for design have demonstrated not only that waste is available and reliable in terms of performance and use, but also that creativity. The final image of the reused and redesigned object is very often valuable in terms of artistic and qualitative properties. In recent years, in order to allow any reuse or recycling of objects, buildings or parts of the city, the scientific application of the whole procedure has to be tested. Paper plates are an example of a non-reusable product. Cutlery that can be reused prevents waste at the landfill, but it also lowers the amount of energy needed to manufacture new products. In particular, the question of non organic wastes within the city lifecycle could be faced by taking the opportunity of employing them as a useful second matter element for highly sustainable technologies during urban transformation and regeneration. The action of recycling also keeps usable materials out of landfill.
