ABSTRACT

People with a growth mindset, according to Dweck's research, believe that their most basic abilities can be improved through hard work and dedication, in contrast to those with a fixed mindset who believe these abilities are set and can't be developed. A growth mindset creates a love of learning and a resilience that leads to greater and greater accomplishments. Educational leaders need to believe that all teachers and principals in a school or system have the potential to develop if given the right conditions. A fixed mindset is exhibited when leaders fail to consistently observe and provide feedback, when they treat evaluation as an event, and have a checklist mentality to school improvement. To understand human capital one must understand the interconnectedness between human and social capital. Human capital is about talent or the quality of the individual, while social capital focuses on the group.
