ABSTRACT

Fullan's idea of 'skinny', boiling down the change into the smallest number of key high yield factors that have impact on learning, is how the authors approach the development and revision of school improvement plans. The goal of the school improvement plan is to effect change in the system, and in order to increase the speed of the change and have large-scale reform leaders must follow the concept of 'simplexity'. Schools and school systems are highly compartmentalized, both by physical and organizational design. A professional development plan should include the name/description of the learning activity, alignment to the strategy, projected dates, resources needed, and evaluation of activities. The term strategy can conjure up many different definitions. When it comes to developing a school improvement plan, strategy is defined as a short-term statement that describes what must be done to meet the goal.
