ABSTRACT

During the summer months the commitments to school improvement, a healthy culture, and development of professional capital are evident when leaders tend to data analysis, spend time on reflection, and organize learning environments. Attention to these important tasks during the summer months sets up the school for the important work that needs to happen during the fall. The problem schools currently face with data is not that it doesn't exist, but rather identifying which data has relevance and what to do once the data is analyzed. The first phase in the data analysis cycle is to collect data. While this sounds like a straight forward task, many of today's schools have sophisticated student management and learning management systems that can make this feel like an insurmountable task. Leadership teams need to brainstorm a list of all of the demographic, perceptual, school process, and student learning data in their building and how often it is collected.
