ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the Persian Baburnama, a key primary source and the earliest record of Babur's memoirs. The authoritative translation uses paintings from the original work and draws on contemporary texts of the period to delve into the history of the legendary Mughal ruler. It provides a fresh treatment to the source material and highlights vivid accounts of the historical events of the time. The Baburnama Folios explain how Khusrau Shah pays homage to Babur at Dushi, near Kabul, and how he kneels before Babur seated under a large tree. Khusrau Shah, driven from his kingdom by Shaibani, was upset when he heard that Mughul horde had joined Babur; seeing nothing better to do for himself, he sent his son-in-law Ayub's Yaqub with his well wishing and submission to Babur. After the submission of Khusrau Shah, his Begs, their men, and tribe after tribe deserted him and joined Babur.
