ABSTRACT

As it turned out, the research program on the organization of face-to-face interaction had two, distinct phases: an exploratory phase and a replication phase. The discussion to this point has centered on characteristics of the exploratory phase. On the basis of this discussion it may be clear that this phase was designed to discover possible elements of the organization of face-to-face interaction, and to develop empirical evidence supporting these claimed discoveries. On the strength of such evidence, reasonable hypotheses with respect to interaction organization might be advanced.
