The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998

These Regulations (PUWER 98) replace an earlier 1992 set of the same name, which implemented the first EC directive on work equipment – the Use of Work Equipment Directive (known as UWED). The European Council of Ministers agreed a further directive – the Amending Directive to the Use of Work Equipment (AUWED) – in 1995, and PUWER 98 (SI 1998 No 2306) implements that Directive in the UK.
