ABSTRACT

The first India-ROK Agreement on Civil Aviation was signed in March 1992 during the visit of the then Minister of External Affairs, Madhav Singh Solanki, to Korea. The Indian community in Korea is, by and large, affluent and well educated. Initially, Chennai emerged as the hub of the Korean community as the Hyundai Motor Company opened its plant outside Chennai in 1996. Most Koreans made the Kilpauk Township their residence, which acquired the nickname of 'Little Korea'. The India-Republic of Korea (ROK) Friendship Society has been in existence for a long time. The ROK's provinces and cities are flush with funds for international relations, study tours and multinational cultural activities. Cultural centres and friendship associations need to be supported financially to be able to reach out to the masses outside the big cities to enhance awareness and knowledge about the ROK in India and about India in the ROK.
