ABSTRACT

Muhammad is human, but special Muslims agree that Muhammad was a human being and not an incarnation of God, as Christians claim for Jesus. He is in no sense to be worshipped. e Qur’an

commands him to say, “I am a human being like you. It is revealed to me that your God is one God. Let him that hopes to meet his Lord do what is right and worship none beside him” (18:111). After Muhammad died some were saying he could not have died, so Abu Bakr checked and then said: “O men, if anyone worships Muhammad, Muhammad is dead, but if anyone worships God, God is alive and does not die.” en he recited from the Quran: “Muhammad is no more than a messenger: other messengers have passed away before him. If he die or be slain, will you turn back on your heels?” (3:144). As a human being he was subject to human failings and the Qur’an even reprimands him on one occasion for turning his back on a poor man who approached him while he was trying to win over a rich man (80:1-10).
