ABSTRACT

Sociobiology is a theory about the cultural evolution of social behaviors. The theory concentrates on phylogeny-the development of a species from its origin to its present form-rather than on ontogeny (development of the individual within a single life span). The emphasis on phylogenesis is an important point to remember throughout the entire chapter, since the theory views developmental change as something that occurs between generations of individuals instead of something that happens during a single lifetime.
