ABSTRACT

When you get your first job teaching, you will probably be surprised to find out that your classroom is essentially a revolving door for at least your first year. Principals, parents, curriculum directors, and other people with a vested interest in the success of your classroom teaching will visit quite often. However, a number of people may not visit your classroom nor attend concerts, but will nonetheless have a say in what you teach and how you teach it in your classroom. These people are generally those associated with school boards, various cultural and special interest groups, and local, state, and national government. What you teach in your classroom is actually taken from the school, state, and national instructional guidelines or requirements, more commonly known as a curriculum.
