ABSTRACT
Basic elements of music need to be thoroughly understood to appreciate and teach aspects of music. Although most people understand music at an emotional and aesthetic level (see Chapter 2), this isn’t really all there is to it. To elementary teachers, music can be used to teach many aspects of science, particularly in the physics subfield of acoustics. So, before we begin, we’ll give you a brief background on the development of musical sound from a theoretical and scientific context.
