ABSTRACT

Children are predisposed to move to the sound of music. They spontaneously move to recorded and live music. Émile Jaques-Dalcroze believed that rhythm is the primary element in music. The source for all musical rhythm may be found in the natural rhythms of the human body (for example, a heartbeat, a newborn's sucking rate, and breathing) (Fraisse 1982). Dalcroze identified the body as the first instrument to be trained in music.
