ABSTRACT

Mrs. Carrington lived alone after her husband died. She lived in the same one-bedroom apartment that they had shared. At first, this seemed fine, but after a few years she began to have trouble climbing the six flights of stairs to her apartment. She found it hard to go out for groceries. She even had trouble getting to her groundfloor mailbox every day. The building superintendent helped her with rides to the supermarket. He got her mail for her and did small repairs around her apartment. But this depended on his schedule and personal plans.
