ABSTRACT

What are they really like-our national politicians? It’s a largequestion, and it drives a very large body of political science inquiry. Most of that inquiry focuses on the activity of our U.S. representatives and senators in the place where our national politics is played and our national decisions are made. That place is Washington, D.C.—in particular, Capitol Hill. We spend a lot of time studying our politicians’ behavior in that place. And we have produced careful, complex, and useful answers to our questions.
