ABSTRACT
Gillian Sabet, the class president of her high school, was driving herself, her boyfriend, and three other teenage passengers to their school prom. According to a Cable News Network (CNN) story, Gillian’s mother reported that while on the way to the prom, one of the four passengers asked for a piece of chewing gum. Gillian had a pack of gum in the driver’s seat pocket. As she reached for the gum, she diverted her eyes from the road for the briefest of moments and lost control of the car ( Lawrence, 2007 ). Gillian and her boyfriend were killed in the accident. The three other passengers survived.
