ABSTRACT

Who’s the biggest, baddest, most famous white collar criminal of all time? During the course of more than two decades, ending with his conviction in 2009, Bernard Madoff, an investment broker, committed the largest financial fraud ever conducted by a single individual. He swindled 4,800 clients out of roughly $50 to $65 billion dollars. His victims include charities and foundations, banks, schools and universities, corporations, a senator, a motion picture producer, a motion picture director, a famous motion picture actor, a Hall of Fame baseball pitcher, the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles, the owner of the New York Daily News, lawyers, accountants, and investors-the list is long, impressive, and for the most part, hugely monied. Many of his clients lost their entire investments to Madoff’s flimflam.
