ABSTRACT

The Visual System is comprised of the eyes and many areas of the brain that are important for processing visual information. This system enables us to make use of some of the electromagnetic energy in the world around us by converting it into neural energy. Transduction is the process of converting one form of energy into another, so all the senses serve as transducers. After describing the electromagnetic energy of the visual stimulus, we will focus on the eye, which contains a structure where the transduction takes place. We will then describe how the resulting neural energy is processed in various areas of the brain.
