ABSTRACT

Some might argue that the birth of clinical psychology was marked by the development of the Binet-Simon scale of intelligence. Others might say that it was the establishment of the first psychology clinic by Lightner Witmer. Whichever side you take, there is agreement that the development of tests of intelligence was instrumental in the creation of the field. As we saw in Chapter 2, the success of tests of intelligence spawned the development of other types of psychological tests and marked the first steps toward professionalization of the field.
