ABSTRACT

This chapter contains a lesson on how to implement each over-the-counter data (OTCD) Supplemental Documentation standard. Supplemental documentation accompanies each data report to ensure educators read the report properly, understand its data, and are primed to use the data properly. Supplemental documentation is an ideal location for report-specific information that educators need but which cannot fit into the report's label, which must remain concise so as to not overwhelm readers. Supplemental Documentation Standards can be implemented by OTCD Supplemental Documentation standards, Details on research-based evidence supporting Supplemental Documentation standards, free templates to help one create reference sheets and reference guides, Samples of reference sheets and reference guides used by others. Data reporting environments can pair data with a reference sheet for each report, offering further explanation that typically cannot fit in places like the footer. Research indicates that viewing a report's reference sheet before using the report can significantly improve chances of analyzing the report's data appropriately.
