ABSTRACT

This chapter contains a lesson on how to implement each over-the-counter data (OTCD) Content standard. An ideal data reporting environment should reflect the OTCD Content standards, which stipulate research-based ways data systems/reports can feature effective content. These standards can be found online with details on the extensive research informing every standard. The chapter creates and co-creates explorable visualizations where users can quickly identify high-level trends and drill down into more detail to answer additional hypotheses. Importantly, development of timely, complete, accurate, and explorable reports requires adherence to Rankin's standards of content. The same is true of data systems in terms of report contents staying up to date. If outdated data report contents are used to treat needs of students, they can lead to flawed conclusions and flawed data-informed decisions, which can hurt students. The key is to use growing wealth of knowledge and resources to keep data system most supportive of evolving needs of its users and evolving research developments.
