ABSTRACT

Creative teaching and learning were observed within urban schooling sites that, as a group, differed from the rural schools described. The Chinese garden evokes reflection and escape from the outside world and expresses harmony in the relationship of people and nature. In Chinese mythology the horse has extraordinary power and swiftness. The rapid development of China's cities has worsened the pollution levels. Culturally oriented examples of creativity were witnessed in the beautification of this school and its eco-friendly environment with real-world simulations of activities. Signs of an eco-friendly mind-set and technology included recycling bins, natural wood conRural scenes with warm tones connected the paintings in the author's studio, contrasting with the stark cityscapes exhibited throughout the school. The trainings and lectures reinforce best teaching models and practices in education worldwide. There were plenty of spaces as well for interactive small group discussion.
