ABSTRACT

In Chinese philosophy, the water symbol means 'source of life': 'Water is meant to help with flow, balance, harmony, and prosperity in one's life'. Water's human associations are flexibility and resilience, wisdom, and inwardness. Water as a metaphor helps me address accountability-creativity in education relative to areas of globalization and philosophy. The accountability unit as described herein was an individual student reflection, thereby concluding my 'Creativity and Accountability in Education' course. Creativity must be practiced by teachers and students. Implying that creativity is a liberating dynamic in education and life, students attributed to it constructive associations, in particular self-expression. Creativity invoked inspiration, fun, color, and relationship; as such, one pre-service teacher contrasted knowledge of teaching with inspiration from creativity, whereas others wrote about the ways creative curricula can enhance teaching and learning. Reinventing the status quo means creatively breaking through the test-score mentality that narrowly determines one's opportunities in life.
