ABSTRACT

A product is useless, no matter how well someone package it or embeds support for its use, if a product's content does not do what users need it to do. Great labeling, supplemental documentation, help system support, and an effective package/display useless in helping educators and their students if the data system reporting content does not do what educators need it to do. The same is true of data system and report contents that are out-of-date. If the outdated contents are used to treat the needs of students, they can lead to flawed conclusions and flawed data-informed decisions, which can hurt students. A report's content should also be designed around its pre-determined audience. An ideal data reporting environment should reflect the OTCD Content Standards, which stipulate research-based ways data systems/reports can provide appropriate data report content. Someone have direct control over the content in their staff's reporting environment.
