ABSTRACT
The most commonly identified pathogen in outbreaks of waterborne disease in the United States today is Giardia (Craun, 1979). Waterborne giardiasis has become a major concern to water supply utilities and public health officials across the country, and an understanding of the nature of the disease and its effect on the communities it attacks is helpful in analyzing the costs and benefits of controlling it.
