Comparisons between Metropolitan Areas book
So far, all the detailed information about the apartment boom used in this study has been related to the Washington SMSA, and most of it has been concentrated on Montgomery County within that area. It takes only a very quick glance at the figures to realize that the extent of the apartment boom has varied a great deal between metropolitan areas, despite the fact that its occurrence has been widespread. One would also suspect that the extent of the suburbanization of the new apartment market has varied a good deal. For this reason it was decided to ex amine some characteristics of forty-one large metropolitan areas for which suitable data were available in order to see what kind of areas had experienced a marked boom in apartments and, particularly, what kind had experienced a boom in the suburbs.
