ABSTRACT

Any contest involves a game of numbers. In a Mr. World contest, for example, we record Mr. Cochran, age 25, 48-28-36, weight 195, height 6'1"; Mr. Ogetauga, age 24,47-29-38, weight 210, height 6'2"; and so on. All contestants are reduced to numbers in a host of categories; age, bust, waist, hips, weight, posture, intelligence, and talents, so that they can be measured, ranked, compared, and analyzed. For measurement, ranking, comparison, and analysis, it is necessary to reduce everything to numbers. In determining numbers, we must define variables, decide on a scale, and obtain measurement based upon a set of criteria. For all the contestants, each category is a variable, and each number represents a point on a particular scale based upon some criteria, and each point is a measurement based upon commonly accepted rules.
