ABSTRACT
Forests of all ownerships obviously produce a wide range of outputs, in addition to wood: outdoor recreation opportunity, including all the psychological and emotional values arising out of forest ownership and/or use; wildlife of many kinds; water, from the rain or snow falling on the land; an amenity landscape; and sometimes wilderness areas and wilderness experiences. This multiplicity of outputs is one important basis for the multiple use forestry practiced and widely advocated for public forests.
