ABSTRACT

Modern film critics set up an opposition between genre film and auteur film. Like children's literature, film is a relatively young form of art which is now catching up with the other arts. Like children's literature, film was not at first perceived by critics to be a serious art form. Evidently auteur books are still limited in number, which accounts for the fact that the same titles reappear in different sections of her study. The reason is not her lack of imagination but the restrictions of the material itself. Obviously, literary children's literature puts greater demands on the reader. It is essential that the grownups who provide children with books-writers, critics, teachers, librarians be aware of the changes taking place in modern children's literature. Only then can children's literature become an important part of the world cultural legacy. Obviously, literary children's literature puts greater demands on the reader.
