ABSTRACT

Passenger ports are designated as ferry and cruise passenger ports if ferry vessels and cruise ships, respectively, are the primary passenger vessels and ships that call at these ports. This chapter discusses ferry and cruise passenger ports and their vessel carrier and passenger users. The users of cruise ports are cruise ships that call at the port and the cruise passengers that board and un-board cruise ships berthed at the port. The cruise product purchased by cruise passengers has several components: transportation on-board accommodation, dining, entertainment and recreational activities; cruise ports of call; and shore excursions. Cruise and container ports differ in their equipment requirements. Cruise ports do not require the heavy lifting equipment found at container ports. Users of ferry ports and terminals include ferry carriers, passengers and passenger vehicles. Ferry vessels carry passengers only, passengers and their passenger vehicles, and passengers and their vehicles carrying cargo.
