ABSTRACT
H o w , t h e n , are we to live? What are the implications of psychoan alytic discovery for the conduct of life itself? What are the implica tions of this unproven and unprovable discovery of life as a repetitious composition of the contradictoriness of desire and semiosis, of “being” in relation to the law and order of signification, and of a contradictorious otherwise that breaks the reiterative claims of all apparent repe titions? Here and in the next chapter we shall discuss psychoanalysis as method, as praxis, and in terms of the “ethicality” of its curative momentum. The idea of a postmodern mandate provides an oppor tune entrance to this discussion.
