ABSTRACT

In Chapter 3 we discussed the application of global HRM service delivery models in MNEs using various organizational arrangements such as shared services, business partnering and centres of excellence. When implementing the model globally, MNEs often rely on information technology (IT) to support the delivery of their HRM services across various locations (Heikkilä and Smale 2011). Since early 2000, IT-based HRM service delivery, or the ‘e-enablement of HRM’ (or even more briefly and simply, and the term we shall use here, ‘e-HRM’), has attracted significant attention from HRM practitioners and scholars (Bondarouk et al. 2009b). This technology-based approach is relevant particularly to the context of MNEs as a way to overcome geographical distances in conducting HRM activities across global organizations.
